 PEACE IN THE VALLEY DANIEL'S NEW CDDANIEL'S NEW CD 'Peace In The Valley' Daniel's taste in music is very wide ranging. One of the things which has sustained his popularity over the years is his unerring ability to know his fans well and to appreciate what they most enjoy listening to. Sometimes he has taken chances by diversifying, never allowing his music to become predictable nor ever being satisfied by resting on past successes. To this end he has recorded Irish ballads, rock 'n' roll, a Christmas album, Classic Popular songs, love songs, a tribute to one of his favourite singers, the late Jim Reeves, Gospel and Inspiration, Country and a self penned album. Daniel grew up listening to country music and his love of inspirational and gospel music is beyond question. On his latest release, 'Peace In The Valley', Daniel has combined these two genres to present us with an outstanding country gospel album which his fans will treasure for a long time to come. Speaking about the album Daniel says: I have known many of these songs for a long time and I selected all the tracks myself. I felt that this should be a Country Gospel album, one that looks back on songs which have stood the test of time, and that is exactly what it is. The fifteen songs which Daniel has chosen certainly bear out what he says. One needs to go back sixty years to discover who had the original hit with 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee'. It was a Top Ten hit for one of the most popular recording artists of the 1940's and 1950's, Red Foley. The following year Red enjoyed another Top Ten hit with the title track, Peace In The Valley'. Since then, both these songs have been covered by numerous artists but, in Daniel's hands, they sound as fresh as the day they were first recorded. Two songs which proved to be huge hits in 1955 were 'A Satisfied Mind', by Porter Wagoner, the man who discovered Dolly Parton and was her singing partner for a number of years and 'Wait A Little Longer Please Jesus', by Carl Smith, the husband of June Carter, who, following her divorce from him, married Johnny Cash. Ferlin Husky was another popular country singer during the 1950's and beyond, and it was he who first had a Number One hit on Billboard with 'Wings Of A Dove', a song which has been recorded so many times by various artists since then. Daniel has loved the music of the late Jim Reeves for much of his life and at one point he recorded a tribute album to him, so it is hardly surprising to find that he has included three songs which Jim recorded on his own gospel albums, 'Where We Never Grow Old', 'I'll Fly Away' and 'Precious Memories'. Incidentally, the only song which appeared on Daniel's recent 'Hope And Praise' album is 'I'll Fly Away', but the way in which Daniel sings it always makes it worth listening to again. Daniel has never made a secret of the fact that his all time favourite country artist is Loretta Lynn, so who can fault him for including the wistful 'If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again' which Loretta recorded on an album titled 'Hymns' some years ago? Another artist that Daniel held in high regard was the late Vern Gosdin, known among country fans as 'The Voice'. Vern wrote and recorded two of the songs which Daniel has included, the thought provoking 'If Jesus Comes Tomorrow, What Then', and 'Praying'. Vern would have been very proud of the way in which Daniel has delivered these songs. Four more titles complete the package, 'Mansion Over The Hilltop', 'Far Side Banks Of The Jordan', 'I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone' and 'The Church In The Wildwood', making this album one which Daniel has intended recording for a long time and one of which he is extremely proud. To tell you the truth, Daniel said, when asked about this album, I totally immersed myself in gospel music for a long time before picking out what meant the most to me. As much as I may enjoy the singers and the way in which they present their songs, I am always more of a fan of the songs than the singers and that is the reason for me having selected these particular songs. It only takes a single listen to 'Peace In The Valley' to appreciate Daniel's love and understanding of Country Gospel music but it is guaranteed that fans will be listening to it many more times than once! It is another winner for Daniel, and one in which he can feel justifiably proud. The album will be released in UK on the 26th October 2009. It will also be released in Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
